PORTAAL to LIBERATION was the first piece we ever sculpted and painted, over 9 years ago. During a time of great transition. From getting a divorce from our abusive & rappist husband, leaving the religion of Mormonism we grew up in, being a single parent to a baby and sole provider, who was in deep need of profound healing.

One night we were overcome by the intensities of C-PTSD from our former marriage. We had no clue what to do, how to process the depths of feeling so unsafe in our body, in our home, and existing in life so sensitive & triggered. A week earlier a good friend dropped off their unwanted paint supplies before they moved across the country. I remember seeing these tools, not knowing how to use them, yet in my desperation to express any of this suffocating energies out of me, I started sculpting and painting. I entered into an unknown trance flow state. When I woke up from this state, I gazed in wonder at what had been revealed from my heart onto canvas. A visceral expression of my movements towards liberation.

As you gaze into this portal you will see a bouquet of squirting vaginas, and a phoenix rising from the ground.

Years later, I unfortunately got myself into another abusive relationship. One night this abuser came home drunk, beyond their wits in anger. They ripped my nightgown & grabbed this beloved painting from the wall and smashed it over a kitchen chair. I was devastated to wake up to the realities that I was in another abusive situation & that this painting that was paramount to my healing journey was destroyed.

I carried this painting with me for years, hanging it on walls to remind me to never allow that form of relationship to enter into my life again. Years later as I began to activate my wholeness once more, I have this painting a fresh coat of paint & stitched the broken parts up with thick gold cord, inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi.

As we gaze into this portal it will move you. It moves everyone in different ways. Alas it is powerful, and how it moves you will change you forever. We are so grateful to share these depths with you.
